Tortoise and Hare Plate, 1950

Item — Box: CFC Tableware Box 10
Identifier: CFC2019.0044.1.8
Abstract Each plate has a green line inside an undulating outer edge. At the point of indentation an 1¼" into the plate there is a simple black line. Once the plate reaches its lowest level, a repeated pattern of thin and thick blocks forms a circle around the fable scene. This is done in about five strong colors: brown, tan, blue, green, red, and black. The resulting scenes look like wood inlay and are delightful in their simplicity. Does the mouse in FM wear goggles and a swimsuit? The snail in...

Spice Jar

Item — Box: CFC Tableware Box 10
Identifier: CFC2019.0070.1
Abstract

The fox faces the tortoise and hare, perhaps at the start of their race. The design is in fact identical with that on the cup, but some of the space between the fox and the other pair is removed on the smaller jar. The jar is marked "Parsley" at its top, and the floral pattern of the top of the cylinder is repeated on the separate lid.

Lion and Fox Mug, 2006

Item — Box: CFC Tableware Box 10
Identifier: CFC2019.0069.1
Abstract

The design on this cup features, in blue, a simple scene of a lion (?) and a fox apparently simply looking at each other. My best guess is that the scene depicted is that of the fox that first approached the lion and ran away with fear. A second time he came closer. The third time he came right up and addressed him.
