Preface: This book is designed to recognize the power and importance of women. It is dedicated to the subtle and dramatic contributions women make each day in the lives of others and in their community. As mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers, mentors and friends, they help us grow and prosper. These women and girls have shared many gifts - gifts of love, wisdom, strength and grace. The tributes have another purpose. Proceeds from this book will help the women and girls of Omaha who face the daily challenges of poverty, homelessness, violence, discrimination, lack of education and lack of personal value. The Women's Fund of Greater Omaha is both grateful to the donors who support our work and honored to celebrate the women and girls who appear on the following pages.
