Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Carlson Fable Collection is a gathering of primary fable materials at Reinert Alumni Memorial Library at Creighton University. It grew out of the personal collection of fable materials gathered by Rev. Gregory Carlson, S.J. and was given to the Creighton Libraries in 1996. There are more than 10,000 books and approximately 8,000 artifacts in the collection.

From plates to stamps, from cards to whiskey decanters, from toys to posters, you'll find just about anything you can imagine here. Please explore all that is to offer here in my fables Catalogue of Objects.

This is the largest online catalog of fable related objects on the internet. Many are from Aesop's Fables but you will find La Fontaine, Velazquez and Krylov also represented in this collection.

Abstract

"Le Lion devenu vieux." G. Klein (?). Editions E.D.F.

Highly colorful and unusually designed card. The characters extend beyond the L-shaped section for the picture. Longhand presentation of the fable, signed by J. de La Fontaine. Verso is not written upon at all.

"Le Renard et les Raisins." G. Klein (?). Editions E.D.F.

The grapes are presented against a background of multicolored leaves. The fox's paw and tail extend just slightly into the text section of the card, and the leaves similarly extend out slightly from the L-shaped section reserved for the picture. The fox sticks out his tongue in longing for the grapes. Longhand presentation of the fable, signed by J. de La Fontaine. Verso is not written upon at all.

"Le Loup et le Cigogne." G. Klein (?). Editions E.D.F.

Another highly colorful and unusually designed card. The wolf extends one pay just over the border of the L-shaped section for the picture, and the stork's wing similarly just extends into the text section of the cad. Longhand presentation of the fable, signed by J. de La Fontaine. Verso is dated in 1927.
