1 brass button of the Eagle and the Stag, 1890
1 brass button of the Eagle and the Stag, 1890
See my other button showing this fable for the story. This is a darker button with a stag running left in the foreground and an eagle moving right above. Flora fill in the open spaces around the circumference, with another rim added around the scene. Stamped and tinted brass, with a steel back and wire shank.
1 circular Fox and Crow button, brass surrounded by metal studs, 1890
The pattern is the same as that on the Wiedeman button of similar proportions, but the button comes from a different mold; that is, two artists worked from the same visual pattern to make two different metal casts. The central circle containing the scene is slightly loose and off-center. Two-piece construction, with a metal eyelet welded onto the back. These studs do not have the luster of the Monleón buttons.
1 circular Fox and Crow button, red-tinted brass, 1890
Though the image seems very famliar, I cannot place the button in BBB. The scene is basically the same as that on my two Monleón buttons. The button itself is of one-piece construction, with a metal eyelet welded onto the back.

2 Jeux de Patience: Les Fables de La Fontaine, 1950
This is perhaps the sturdiest pair of puzzles in the collection. Complete in the box. Jourgin was doing movie posters in 1937. The only other Jouets Veza product I can find is a set of puzzles displaying propeller drive airplanes and jets at Nice's airport. Click on the box to see the two puzzles.

3 Aesop's Fables Puzzles
3 Aesop's Fables Puzzles, 1958
Each of three thirty-piece puzzles includes a printed fable as part of its picture: LM, TH, and FC. I knew there had to be some old picture puzzles out there, and this is the first that I found.

3D Ant & Grasshopper poster with promotional letter, 2000
“Dear Doctor: We are pleased to send you the fifth 3-dimensional wall unit in our six-part series, Aesop’s fables. It is based on the famous story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, which teaches us that nobody believes a liar, even when he is telling the truth. Those who are philosophically minded might say that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Was the boy who cried wolf merely playful…”
3D Fox and Crow, 1960
A three-dimensional image like that of FC on this postcard is not, in my experience, computer-friendly. This image has a very well posed clay figurine waiting beneath the crow. In the background are a windmill, a red fence, and some trees. I do believe that this card is the first three-dimensional card in the collection.

4 Dust jackets ("Couverture Cahier") "Fables de La Fontaine", 1900
I have been unconvinced and then convinced – mostly – that these four dust-jackets were published by Épinal of Pellerin. They are so much in the style of that firm that I simply presumed that they were the publishers. Unfortunately, there is no marking on them to indicate the publisher except the symbol on the front of all four jackets: a coat of arms "P S" and "Propriété des Editeurs." The least likely to come from Pellerin, it seems to me, is "Le Lion et le Chasseur."
